Lawton Manor Care Home, in Church Lawton, has teamed up with Alsager Highfields Primary School for a newly launched pen pal scheme, connecting residents within their homes with creative writing pupils.

Residents of Lawton Manor, which is run by Barchester Healthcare have written replies to letters received from children of different ages at the school and have started to make new friends within the inter-generational scheme.

Alsager Town Council has approved its budgets for the coming year (2021/22), agreeing a more than six per cent reduction in residents' precept payment.

The precept is the yearly sum requested by the town council to help it meet its spending requirements. It is then converted into an amount per council tax band and collected by the borough council as part of your council tax bill.

Alsager Highfields are delighted to receive such positive feedback from local nursing homes after their children made cards and wrote letters to spread some Christmas joy amongst the residents.

The initiative started with The Oaks retirement village asking them to create cards, but after so much enthusiasm from the primary school pupils they made the decision to contact all other homes in the area.
