An Alsager ward councillor requested at a Cheshire East cabinet meeting this week that the authority provided residents with adequate information regarding gritting and snow clearance.

Following the recent icy and snowy weather, Cllr June Buckley, a ward and town councillor for Alsager, queried at Tuesday's cabinet meeting, where residents could expect to find their closest salt bins and bags.

Cheshire East put salt bins in residential areas near to shopping areas, part way up hills with a gradient steeper than 10%, and in other areas where there is a need.

Residents can use the salt in the bins on public roads and pavements.

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said: "Do not take it for your own property because there is not enough salt for public roads and pavements then people could get hurt."

The authority normally stocks the bins once each winter. Residents can contact Cheshire East online asking for a bin to be provided a or to report that a current bin is empty.

In "severe" weather conditions, Cheshire East deliver one tonne salt bags to rural communities in the hills where needed.

You can use Cheshire East's online map to find your nearest salt bin.
