An Alsager town councillor and local wildlife campaigner is calling on the Government to stop the shooting of wild animals as "permitted exercise" during future lockdowns.
Cllr Jane Smith, who is also deputy leader of the Animal Welfare Party, said that during the current lockdown the local areas around Alsager, Betchton, Scholar Green, Smallwood and beyond had been "rife" with people going out to shoot wild animals, sometimes legally and sometimes illegally.

A healthcare professional from Alsager has achieved academic success to switch career while juggling working full-time, moving home across the country and the birth of his child.
Daniel Milling, from Alsager, is the first student from the University of Chester to complete a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) programme, following a change in legislation to enable paramedics to train as prescribers.

The vaccination roll-out in Alsager and the surrounding area is ahead of schedule, according to the council leader.
In yesterday's (Monday) daily video update, Cllr Sam Corcoran praised the efforts of the local NHS and volunteers for vaccinating over 10,000 people.

A councillor who discovered drug paraphernalia whilst undertaking a litter pick wants Alsager Town Council to have the power to issue fixed penalty notices to dog walkers who do not pick up their pet's poo.
Speaking at last Tuesday's Alsager Town Council meeting, Cllr Sue Helliwell queried what powers the town council had when issuing fixed penalty notices for litter, graffiti and offences under dog control orders.

A ward councillor is "pressing" for measures to be implemented that were "promised" when the former MMU site was being developed, which would prevent motorbikes getting onto the Alsager Sports Hub.
Several residents have contacted Cllr Phil Williams to express their concerns about the vandalism and anti-social behaviour issues that have been taking place at the Alsager Sports Hub, on Dunnocksfold Road.

An Alsager ward councillor has called on Cheshire East to change their pendant alarm contract as a "matter of urgency" to ensure vulnerable people are not left without the life-saving pager overnight.
Pendant alarms are worn by vulnerable people to press in an emergency and have been used for many years and have saved "countless lives".

An Alsager couple who are currently staying in a holiday home having endured a flooding nightmare at their idyllic country cottage for the last 16 months, are at their "wits end".
Christine, 72, and Luther Turner, 67, had four and a half "idyllic" years in their Slate Cottage, on Linley Lane, Alsager.
The latest crime figures released by police show there were 80 crimes in the Alsager area during December 2020.
These figures compare to 73 crimes the previous month and 67 in December 2019.

A vote of no confidence in the Mayor of Cheshire East could be held next week, after appearing in the viral Handforth Parish Council video clip.
Mayor Barry Burkhill, who represents Handforth as an Independent, also sits on the parish council and can be seen — in the longer version of the video — asking 'where the chairman [Cllr Brian Tolver] has gone' after being placed in the Zoom's waiting room by Jackie Weaver.
