An Alsager town councillor and local wildlife campaigner is calling on the Government to stop the shooting of wild animals as "permitted exercise" during future lockdowns.

Cllr Jane Smith, who is also deputy leader of the Animal Welfare Party, said that during the current lockdown the local areas around Alsager, Betchton, Scholar Green, Smallwood and beyond had been "rife" with people going out to shoot wild animals, sometimes legally and sometimes illegally.

A councillor who discovered drug paraphernalia whilst undertaking a litter pick wants Alsager Town Council to have the power to issue fixed penalty notices to dog walkers who do not pick up their pet's poo.

Speaking at last Tuesday's Alsager Town Council meeting, Cllr Sue Helliwell queried what powers the town council had when issuing fixed penalty notices for litter, graffiti and offences under dog control orders.

A ward councillor is "pressing" for measures to be implemented that were "promised" when the former MMU site was being developed, which would prevent motorbikes getting onto the Alsager Sports Hub.

Several residents have contacted Cllr Phil Williams to express their concerns about the vandalism and anti-social behaviour issues that have been taking place at the Alsager Sports Hub, on Dunnocksfold Road.

An Alsager ward councillor has called on Cheshire East to change their pendant alarm contract as a "matter of urgency" to ensure vulnerable people are not left without the life-saving pager overnight.

Pendant alarms are worn by vulnerable people to press in an emergency and have been used for many years and have saved "countless lives".
