An Alsager town councillor has criticised Cheshire East's decision to approve a temporary remote compound at land opposite the town's existing water treatment plan, which will see 10m of hedgerow removed to construct a temporary access to the site.

The site is part of a field opposite the Alsager Wastewater Treatment Works on Hassall Road.

A VOTE of no confidence in Cheshire East's Mayor, Cllr Barry Burkhill, has been moved for further scrutiny by the council.

The motion, brought forward by Church Lawton ward councillor Liz Wardlaw at full council yesterday (February 17), seeks to remove Cllr Burkhill from his position due to his involvement in the viral Handforth Parish Council meeting clip.

RESIDENTS will have to pay 4.99 per cent more council tax from April, after Cheshire East councillors approved a new budget for the upcoming year, despite an Alsager ward councillor voicing it "will hit many people very hard in the pocket".

The budget, formally known as the Medium Term Financial Strategy, sets out the council's tax and spending plans from 2021 to 2025.
