Crewe has submitted a strong and ambitious bid to become the home of Great British Railways and bring a range of levelling up opportunities to the town.

Today, Cheshire East Council, alongside its partners, submitted its expression of interest in Crewe becoming the location for the headquarters for the new public body, which will be in charge of the railways in the country.

A former Merchant Navy captain who served in the Falklands was just one of the many veterans to enjoy a cuppa at the Alsager branch of the Royal British Legion's launch coffee morning today (Wednesday).

Alsager resident, Capt Pete Morris, served for 40 years and was delighted to join others at the monthly event in the Lawton Suite at the Alsager Civic.

Cheshire East Council has launched the third phase of its Say 'hi' campaign, which will focus on supporting the night-time economy.

The campaign will have a strong presence on social media, a series of 11 films to support each of the council's 11 towns including Alsager, a range of print ads and a broad spectrum of physical promotion of the borough's local restaurants, bars, night clubs, cinemas and theatres, all of which have been greatly impacted by restrictions as a result of the pandemic.
