A video filmed at Sandbach United's ground is to feature in a national campaign to recruit more foster carers during the World Cup

Cheshire East Council is joining up with local authorities from across the UK to form a new virtual team for the World Cup with the aim of achieving just one goal – to recruit more foster carers.

Twenty-six local authorities from across the UK have joined 'Local Councils United' – a new virtual team – to share clips for each day of the World Cup and provide reasons why people should foster with their local council.

And a video filmed at Sandbach United Football Club ground for Cheshire East Council's 'Together for Fostering' team made up of staff and foster carers, features in the campaign.

Each day of the football tournament a council shares a video with the "Help a young person achieve their goal" message and the campaign brings together a united fostering community, to share with everyone why people should foster with your local authority.

Football teams, carers, young people and families will all be featured in the clips during the World Cup campaign with the hashtag #FosterWithYourCouncil2022

Councillor Kathryn Flavell, lead member for children and families at Cheshire East Council, said: "We are proud to join forces with local councils across the UK to raise the importance of fostering.

Cllr Kathryn Flavell

"We want to ask our residents if they can help a child in care to reach their life goals.

"By joining the fostering team for your council, you will be supporting local children and by working together we can all make a huge difference in a child's life."

Kicking off the campaign on 21 November will be Northumberland County Council with Medway Council providing the final video on 17 December.

Filmed at Sandbach United Football Club ground, Cheshire East Council's 'Together for Fostering' team made up of staff and foster carers, will be featured on Tuesday 6 December (day 15 of the World Cup campaign).

Foster carer Kevin said: "I was really pleased to be part of this campaign to highlight the amazing difference a great foster carer can have on a child's life.

"As a keen footballer and supporter, when I was approached to take part in the film, I had no hesitation in joining in and sharing the message that we still need more people to play their part and foster with Cheshire East who are very efficient and always on the ball when it comes to training and support."

Together for Fostering on Facebook will share each of the council's campaigns every day so please follow @CECTogetherForFostering
