21st Dec 2023 - 21st Dec 2023
UNTIL Thursday 21st December

On Thursday 21st December 2023, Alsager Golf & Country Club Jazz Society are pleased to conclude their 2023 programme by welcoming back a fabulous quintet led by top trumpeter Phil Lucas and legendary reedsman John Hallam.
Lucas is renowned on the Northern jazz scene as being a highly melodic & lyrical trumpet player. His earliest experiences as a jazz musician were spent with the Wirrorleans Jazz Band playing in Ma Boyles Pub in Liverpool, before beginning to perform with other Dixieland bands. With a highly versatile sound spanning straight-ahead American Songbook repertoire through to traditional New Orleans, Lucas is highly sought after by a succession of quality musicians and bands. He has appeared at Jazz Festivals such as Keswick, Upton upon Severn and Pershore, which included four years with the American piano player Jeff Barnhart and his 18-30 Band at the Keswick Jazz Festival.
Hallam is well-known on the British Jazz scene as being an outstanding and accomplished musician who is equally at ease with many forms of music on a number of reed instruments. His playing has the ability to be innovative and thrilling as well as sensitively moving. As a freelance professional musician, he has worked with many of the finest musicians from both sides of the Atlantic, including Art Themen, Alan Barnes and Jeff Barnhart. His work has covered recordings for radio, television, jazz workshops and projects for education.
Joining Hallam and Lucas on piano will be our good friend Tom Kincaid. With a sound that combines the effortless intricacy of Art Tatum's playing with the laid-back lyricism of Erroll Garner, Kincaid's swinging style and impeccable ear lead him to be one of Europe's most in-demand pianists. Kincaid has accompanied the likes of Elkie Brooks, Scott Hamilton, Art Themen, Alan Barnes, Bruce Adams and Roy Williams & even worked with Shakin' Stevens!
As usual, the line up with be completed by our talented house musicians, Peter Robinson (bass) and Roger Keay (drums).
It starts at the golf club (ST7 2UR) at 8pm; all are welcome, £7 cash on the door with an optional raffle.
