An award-winning Alsager pub has made it into a national newspaper's round-up of the best 500 pubs in England.

The Lodge Inn in Crewe Road is included in The Telegraph's expert guide to the 500 Best Pubs in England.

The Telegraph says pubs were chosen for their 'charming' character, welcoming staff, rich history and – award-winning beer and represent the very best the country has to offer'.

The guide describes The Lodge Inn as a 'smart tardis-like Cheshire town pub' adding: "This is a very smart operation. Staff wear Lodge-branded Polo shirts; beers are served in Lodge-branded glasses; and the beer mats are emblazoned with, you guessed it, the Lodge logo.

"You'd certainly struggle to forget where you are, but you might get lost. This place is unexpectedly huge, stretching back for miles, taking in a recently created indoor/outdoor space and a slice of authentic garden.

"The beer is high quality – the pub recently won CAMRA Cheshire Pub of the Year – and although there's no hot food, there are huge pork pies sitting on the bar."

The Lodge Inn is run by Sarah and Carl Smith and is no stranger to awards. Earlier this year it was named South Cheshire Pub of the Year by CAMRA - the Campaign for Real Ale - for the third year running. 

Last year, it was also voted Cheshire County Pub of the Year 2024.

The Telegraph says it hopes the guide inspires people to visit as many of the pubs named as possible and has asked readers to get in touch if they have missed a gem in your neighbourhood.
