Alsager resident Jo Dale, who sits on Alsager Town Council representing the Labour party, has submitted a letter to Nub News to complain about Gavin Williamson's recent comments in the Houses of Parliament.

His comment that parents should complain to Ofsted about schools shows a complete and utter disrespect for the amazing work teachers and support staff are currently doing, in what is an unprecedented emergency situation.

Gavin Williamson expected our teachers to go to work in an unsafe environment for both themselves and our wider community only a few days ago.

I would like to pass on my concerns that he is unfit for the job and should resign immediately.

Alsager School has done an incredible job this week, despite having next to no notice - in the face of extreme adversity, severe underfunding and decisions published at late hours when it is too late to respond.

Alsager School has given a full timetable of live online lessons for all children - a huge logistical feat (maybe teachers should also be tasked with the logistics of delivering the vaccine to centres - I am sure they would do a much better job than the health secretary).

My youngest child who is in year seven has enthusiastically told me all about what she has been learning. She has especially enjoyed history.

We have even had an email explaining how children can still borrow books and with offers of support that help the children chose what to read.

I also have a son in sixth form, who was due to sit A level exams this summer. Thanks to Mr "dither and delay" Williamson his exams have now eventually been cancelled (something the rest of us saw coming months back).

There were some teething problems with my son accessing lessons at first - however this was swiftly rectified by Alsager School.

I would like to thank the teachers and all the other school staff for doing such an excellent job in exceedingly difficult circumstances.

School staff are exhausted from months of doing twice their normal workload, along with NHS staff I expect Mr Williamson and this government will be increasing school funding and giving staff a pay rise very soon.

Can I suggest that in future, instead of asking parents to contact Ofsted, why don't you stand up and celebrate an amazing workforce, who are going above and beyond to make this shambles created by Mr Williamson's dither and delay work?

I have one final question for Mr Williamson - where are the laptops? I do wonder if they got lost on their way to Barnard Castle?
