Girlguiding Alsager District has launched its centenary celebrations when local MP, Fiona Bruce, unveiled a commemorative plaque at the Guide Hall in Cedar Avenue.
Representatives from each of the nine Units in Alsager District, together with their families, were warmly welcomed to the Hall by Joint District Commissioner Teresa Longhurst.
Looking round the representative Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, she felt that Mrs R Stevenson, Leader of 1st Alsager Guide Company in 1924, would have been extremely pleased and proud to know that Girlguiding in Alsager is still going strong 100 years on.
Before unveiling the commemorative plaque, Fiona Bruce paid tribute to the volunteers without whom Girlguiding simply would not exist.
She fondly recalled her own days as a Brownie in the 1960s and pointed out how influential Girlguiding Leaders can be and the difference they make to the lives of the girls in their Units.
She also thanked the girls for the effort they put into their meetings and their parents for supporting Girlguiding.
The afternoon concluded with tea and cake and mums and girls sharing their own favourite memories of their time in Girlguiding.
If you were a member of Girlguiding in Alsager and would like to share your memories, please email them to [email protected] or contact Poppy on 07731 968289 or Laura on 07542 749438.
