Jazz fans in Alsager are in for a treat on Thursday 12^th June as the Alsager Golf & Country Club Jazz Society present an evening featuring two of Britain's most captivating instrumentalists: saxophonist Alex Clarke and trumpeter Darren Lloyd.

Clarke, a rising star in the British jazz scene, is celebrated for her profound respect for bebop tradition blended with a fresh, contemporary approach. Her impressive accolades include the 2019 British Jazz Awards' Rising Star, a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2020, and three-time nominee in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Critics often liken her playing to jazz legends Phil Woods and Cannonball Adderley, praising her melodic creativity and sophisticated harmonies. Her critically acclaimed album, "Only A Year," showcases her talents as both a bandleader and composer. Clarke's collaborations with esteemed musicians like Alan Barnes and her performances with the prestigious Ronnie Scott's Jazz Orchestra firmly establish her as a significant voice in modern jazz.

Joining Clarke is the remarkably versatile Darren Lloyd, whose musical journey spans both the jazz and classical realms. Lloyd is a highly sought-after trumpet player, known for his warm, lyrical sound. His extensive performance credits include appearances with renowned orchestras such as The Hallé and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, demonstrating his classical prowess. In the jazz world, he has graced the stage with beloved ensembles like the Pasadena Roof Orchestra and Glenn Miller UK, showcasing his versatility across different jazz styles. Beyond his dynamic performance career, Lloyd is also a dedicated educator, sharing his passion and expertise by teaching for the Derbyshire Music Partnership and Altrincham School. Audiences can anticipate a diverse programme from Lloyd, ranging from the fiery rhythms of Latin jazz to the cool, mellow tones reminiscent of Chet Baker.

Leading the rhythm section this week will be Richard Wetherall on keys. For over a quarter of a century, Richard Wetherall has graced the keys, collaborating with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Richard Iles, Bobby Wellins and Mark Nightingale. His musical journey has taken him across the globe, touring extensively with Casablanca Steps and Dominic Halpin and the Honey B's. A particular highlight of his illustrious career includes the unforgettable experience of supporting the iconic Tony Bennett and his quartet in Halifax, Canada – a testament to his exceptional skill and captivating stage presence.

Completing the quintet will be our regular house musicians, Peter Robinson (bass) and Roger Keay (drums).
