25th Jul 2024 - 25th Jul 2024
UNTIL Thursday 25th July

On Thursday 25th July, Alsager Golf & Country Club Jazz Society are thrilled to welcome back a true national treasure of British jazz; saxophonist & clarinettist Alan Barnes!
As a recipient of over 25 British Jazz Awards, Barnes' unique musicianship, indefatigable touring, and warm rapport with audiences have made him a leading figure in British jazz since his arrival on the scene more than thirty years ago. Best known for his work on clarinet, alto and baritone sax, he combines a formidable virtuosity with a musical expression and collaborative spirit that have few peers.
With an immense recording catalogue of over thirty albums as leader and co-leader alone, Barnes has toured and played residencies with such diverse and demanding figures as Freddie Hubbard, Scott Hamilton, Warren Vache, Ken Peplowski and Harry Allen.
In British jazz, the young Barnes was recognized – and hired – by the established greats of the time: Stan Tracey, John Dankworth, Kenny Baker, and Humphrey Lyttelton. He is equally respected for his longstanding and fruitful collaborations with contemporaries such as David Newton, Bruce Adams, and Martin Taylor.
On piano for this event will be Dean Stockdale. Known for his sensitive, swinging style reminiscent of Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans, Stockdale appears around the UK with his trio and with some of the best names in British jazz. As always, our house musicians Peter Robinson (bass) and Roger Keay (drums) complete the rhythm section.
It starts at the golf club (ST7 2UR) at 8pm; all are welcome, £7 cash on the door with an optional raffle.
