Traders want to stay outside at Alsager's Wednesday Outdoor Market

Alsager Nub News has run various stories about Alsager's Wednesday Market and the town council's plan to move it inside Alsager Civic - here's a link to one: https://alsager.nub.news/news/local-news/angry-alsager-outdoor-market-stall-holders-ask-residents-to-sign-up-to-the-petition-168326

Reader, Gillian Sherratt, has shared her views on it not being allowed to the market continue on Fairview car park – pointing out how "green" and environmentally friendly the market is, not to mention the boost to the local economy .

Here is her letter ...

"The thought that it will not be allowed to remain on the car park would be a disaster not only for the stall holders who stand servicing the community in all weathers but for the people who support it.

"It may not be the largest market but it is not always the best to have quantity over quality. I can assure you that the stalls give quality produce and quality service. Purchasing produce from any of the stalls is up to yourself.

"The flower stall which has stood on the market for over 29 years has seen sons and daughters from customers who are no longer here. It's very warming to think there are still people around in this day and age that care. That's what servicing the community is all about.

"That I can assure you all these stall holders care about the Alsager community. People who live on their own purchase what they require instead of having to purchase more than what they require. Nothing is prepacked therefore saving on plastics.

"Stall holders that help you too carry trays of plants, heavy fruit and veg to your car. That is what you call good customer service. People who have a disability have easy access onto the car park and should they require any disability products ie for electric scooters etc can get advice from the gentleman who has the disability stall.

"Mums or even grandmas with prams can easy walk around the stalls with no hassle. Customers who walk their dogs up to the market always get a welcome and a treat from the dog stall and the dogs go away with happy wagging tails.

Stall holders who support the Community Cafe for their snacks who in turn the Community Cafe help the food bank and therefore they would miss out on that trade.

"If the Wednesday Market is removed from the car park, people driving on would not see the stalls and not bother to stop, therefore everyone loses.

"The market attracts stall holders and customers from Biddulph, Kidsgrove and Butt Lane as well as Alsager.

"Those who come to the market then go and have a coffee at one of the coffee shops in Alsager. The market must remain on the car park for the community of Alsager and surrounding area."
