AFC Alsager win five-goal thriller in last match before suspension of grassroots football

By Tom Avery 3rd Nov 2020

When the Government gives grassroots football the green light to commence once again, AFC Alsager will resume their season top of the Men Unite Premier Division.

The Swans found themselves 2-0 down inside three minutes of Saturday's trip to Silverdale Athletic after conceding two penalties.

The league leaders pulled one back just before half-time through Jordan Rigby.

After reducing the deficit, the Swans showed the character and determination to turn the match around.

Lucas Baker equalised for the visitors and the hosts held on until the 85th minute, before Dan Ward headed one in off the post to clinch a massive three points.

Following today's (Tuesday) Government announcement that all adult and children's grassroots football is to be suspended in England, the earliest the Swans look set to return to action is Saturday 5 December.
