AFC Alsager's quest to be crowned league champions fell agonisingly short at the final hurdle.

The Swans travelled to Buxton on the last day of the season knowing that a win would crown them champions.

However, against a Buxton side that was full of first teamers, AFC Alsager lost 6-1, which meant either Foley Meir or Redgate Clayton could capitalise and win the league.

On the same day, Foley Meir saw off fellow title hopefuls Redgate Clayton 4-0 to clinch a pulsating title race.

AFC Alsager do still have the opportunity to finish the season with a piece of silverware. They face Hanley Town in the League Challenge Cup Final on Bank Holiday Monday.

The game at Hanley Town Football Club, kicks off at 7.30pm. Admission is £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.
