Two cases of bird flu in Cheshire

Cheshire East Council is working to support the response to two confirmed outbreaks of avian influenza in Cheshire West and Chester.

The outbreaks are in premises close to the border with Cheshire East, near Aldersley and near Tarporley.

It's dusk and a group of volunteers are pulling on their boots, gloves and Hi-Viz jackets, picking up their buckets and fishing nets and heading for the country lanes.

The weather is mild, between 6oC and 11 oC and the roads are wet as it's just rained but that doesn't matter for these are the perfect conditions for the annual toad mating season and the volunteers are ready.

With positive Covid cases very high in Cheshire East and the new directives this week, the council is asking parents and carers to maintain Covid safe behaviours when attending Christmas events at nurseries, schools, or colleges.

While some settings have taken the difficult decision to cancel their Christmas performances based on their risk assessment, others across the borough are continuing with their planned nativity plays, concerts and festive themed pantomimes.
