Alsager Air Cadets' Commanding Officer and colleagues are putting their best feet forward and walking the 84 mile Hadrian's Wall walk to raise money for equipment at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Flt Lt Chris Hearnshaw, of 2493 (Alsager) Sqn and his colleagues have set up a JustGiving page here for the walk after his own daughter was airlifted to the hospital following a serious accident.

He said: "Last year, our family went through one of the most frightening experiences a parent can face.

"After a serious accident, my daughter was taken by air ambulance helicopter to Alder Hey Children's Hospital. In those moments, nothing else mattered except getting her the care she needed as quickly as possible.

"During her time in hospital, we saw first-hand the incredible professionalism, compassion and dedication of the doctors, nurses and staff and also the very real pressures they work under every day.

"One moment in particular stayed with us: watching nurses struggle to locate hygiene chairs, which are a vital part of rehabilitation.

"These chairs help children move safely from bed, regain independence, and manage their most basic needs with dignity during recovery."

Chris said these chairs are not "nice to have" items they are essential. "Yet staff are often stretched trying to access the equipment they need.

"Our aim is simple and practical: to raise enough money to purchase as many hygiene chairs as possible for Alder Hey, the chairs cost approximately £2,000 to £3,000 each.

"Any remaining funds will go towards purchasing clinical thermometers, another basic but essential piece of equipment used every day across the hospital. This walk along Hadrian's Wall is my way of giving something back."

He added: "We were supported at our most vulnerable moment. This walk is about helping ensure that support is there for the next family.

"Any donation, no matter the size, will make a genuine, tangible difference. Thank you for supporting Alder Hey and the incredible people who care for our children."

Chris and his colleagues have already raised £1,222 of a £5,000 target and donations can be made here
