Alsager's Townhouse Nurseries on Lawton Road and Audley Road both celebrated Earth Day yesterday (Thursday, 22nd April).

Staff are "passionate" about sustainability within their Townhouse Nurseries and the wider community.

Emma Mainwaring, nursery manager at Townhouse Lawton Road, said: "It is vital we nurture the children of the future in developing their awareness of the importance of looking after our environment and the planet we live on."

One of the ways Townhouse has incorporated this into their nursery curriculum was through a parent partnership project in line with Earth Day.

The nurseries launched their home links 'Recycled Artwork' project which was a "huge success", and staff were "very proud" of their families and children's work, which included tins and piping.

The artwork has "brightened" up the nurseries barriers as staff displayed the pieces of art for everyone to see when they walk past the nurseries and will eventually be used to decorate the nursery gardens.

In addition, staff provided "engaging enhancements" to the environment both inside and outside to support the children's understanding of "our beautiful planet" and what we can do to ensure we look after it.

The children talked about how to reduce waste and recycle rubbish at nursery and home.

Emma Mainwaring added: "The topic of conversation that is so prevalent at the moment is how rubbish is clogging up our seas and the impact this has on the natural environment and affecting the marine life.

"It is important that our children see the value nature brings to our planet by creating butterfly and bee wildlife gardens within our outdoor environment.

"The toddlers supported home learning that was focused on saving the bees by planting seeds in our garden and nurturing them to grow into a wildlife heaven that will not only attract insects but also provide our children with real life experiences of nature's life cycles."
