Spring is here and it's time to get out and about and enjoy the local countryside.

Rode Hall at Scholar Green has announced the dates of its famous Bluebell Walks, which start next month (April).

The stunning grounds near Alsager will soon blossom into a carpet of bluebells, traditionally linked with ancient woodlands.

And nature lovers are being invited to come and see for themselves the carpet of purple flowers at the annual Bluebell Walks which open on April 20th, 21st and 24th April from 10 am until 4 pm.

The walks also take place on May 1st, 4th and 6th from 10 am until 4 pm.

Bluebells are a sign spring is in full spring say the Woodland Trust.

 "Enchanting and iconic, bluebells are a favourite with the fairies and a sure sign spring is in full swing," they say.

"The violet glow of a bluebell wood is an incredible wildflower spectacle.

"Bluebells are unmistakable bell-shaped perennial herbs. They actually spend the majority of their time underground as bulbs, emerging, often in droves, to flower from April onwards."

A spokesperson for Rode Hall said: "One of the finest bluebell walks in the North West, it is one of the finest times to visit Rode's Grade II listed park and gardens, designed by Humphry Repton, and soak up the incredible colours of bluebells and spring flowers at their best.

"Walk through the shimmering bluebell carpets covering the ground of the Old Wood, experience the stunning wildflowers in the wild garden and the blaze of colours from rare early Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Chilean Fire Bushes.

"Enjoy the tranquil views over Rode Pool and unrivalled vistas of the beautiful Cheshire and Staffordshire Countryside.

"Rode's bluebells are predominantly the endangered and protected native ancient variety which flower on one side of the stalk, are strongly perfumed and can also appear as a white or pinkish flower.

"Highlights of a visit also include the two acre Walled Garden, resplendent in spring blossom from the many varieties of pear, apple and plum trees and with an abundance of vegetable seedlings. "

Ticketscost £7.50 for adults, £3 for children with under fives free. A family ticket costs £20 (up to two adults and three children). Tickets can be bought online here
