Diabetes sufferers are set to get a boost – thanks to adventure-loving scouts who put their best foot forward for charity.
Eighteen members of the Phoenix Explorers Alsager took part in a 40-mile hike and walk in Staffordshire for the JDRF, the Type 1 diabetes charity.
The scouts set off on their walk and hike at 6.30 am in Cannock Chase last Saturday (March 16th), finishing at between 10.30 pm and 11.30pm later that day.
And the group has raised £1,453, smashing their £1,000 target, with donations still coming into their JustGiving page.
Each year, the scouts do the annual 'Chase Walk' for charity and this year chose diabetes as a family member of one of the explorers.
Dan Hancock, one of the Explorer leaders said: "They have raised an incredible sum for JDRF UK the type 1 diabetes charity. We're so proud of them for raising this money.
"Each year we do the Chase Walk, choosing a different charity. They vote on the charity and this year chose JDRF.
"The weather was ok to start but in the last few hours did get a bit challenging. They all did very well.
In previous years, the group has raised money for Alsager Swans as well as other charities.
Explorers is the 4th section in the scouting family, supporting both male and female members aged 14 to 18 years.
The JustGiving page is still open and donations for this challenge can be made here
