Residents living in the East ward will go to the polls next month - to decide on a new town councillor.

The town's smallest form of local government, seeks a new representative in the East ward.

Two candidate have put their names in the hat.

In alphabetical order, Sue Helliwell is on the ballot paper as an Independent candidate.

Gavin Soulsby has put his hat in the ring for the Labour Party.

Voters will need to show photo ID to vote. Residents are advised to make sure they are ready to vote by checking they have an acceptable form of ID.

Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK, EEA or Commonwealth drivers' licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person's bus pass. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID can apply for free voter photo ID online at the Electoral Commission website or by completing a paper form.
