Resident demands a return to free parking in Alsager as charges leave car parks empty
By Deborah Bowyer 26th Oct 2026
An Alsager resident is urging Cheshire East Council to reinstate free parking in the town to stop motorists clogging up nearby roads causing "unnecessary pressure".
Tony Weston claims business employees and customers local business owners are parking in the road rather than Cheshire East car parks.
He took a photo of Station Road car park in Alsager today (Monday) at 9.30 am showing only four cars parked in the car park.
His comments come after Alsager Nub News ran a story here about residents saying motorists say cars are parking on the pavement making it dangerous for residents.
Mr Weston said: "Cheshire East Council it's time to listen properly to residents and local councillors, including those at Alsager Town Council.
"This photograph, taken at 9.30 am on Monday, 26 October 2026, of Station Road car park, Alsager, reinforces everything that is wrong with this questionable parking-charging policy. Many other Cheshire car-parks are similar.
"Local business owners, employees and many customers are instead parking on nearby roads, creating unnecessary pressure on surrounding streets.
"It's time to scrap this ill-considered charging scheme and return to free parking. Save the Council money. Improve road safety. Support local businesses.
"The choice is yours, Cheshire East. Listen to your residents and make the right and fairest decision."
Cheshire East Council declined to comment.
