A business owner near Alsager has launched a campaign to help families affected by the Sandyford estate blaze which destroyed four homes and badly damaged 13 properties and gardens.

Jenny Bell, who runs Bell's Pantry in Rode Heath, is asking customers to leave donations in brown envelopes marked "Sandyford fire" when calling at her cake shed in Cherry Lane.

The entrepreneur, who also runs local dance business, 'Love to Dance' with her husband, has already raised £355 from a dance they held at Packmoor Community Centre on Saturday (15 August) night.

Now Jenny is hoping as many people as possible will leave donations at the cake shed, Bell's Pantry, so they can be added to the £355 already raised.

She said: "It doesn't matter how much you donate. Everything given will be added to the GoFundMe campaign already launched.

"We know how community minded people in this area are and how much much they love to help people in need."

Residents were evacuated and Stoke-on-Trent City Council stepped in to help families some of whom took refuge at Goldenhill Community Centre and Goldenhill Working Men's Club.

A spokesperson said: "Our teams have been supporting residents affected by the fire, including those who needed temporary accommodation.

"Anyone displaced and requiring emergency housing support has been assisted, with hotel accommodation provided where necessary."

Over £9,000 has already been raised in a GoFundMe campaign here to help those affected by the fire and any donations which Bell's Pantry receives will be added to this.

Jenny added: "We started asking people to leave donations at the cake shed last week and we're hoping as many people as possible in Rode Heath and Alsager will come forward and show their support.
