Dozens of homes in Alsager appear to be facing a power cut today (Friday) after what appears to be a fire in a utility pole.

Firefighters were seen at the scene in Lawton Road at the junction of Richard Woodcock Way at 6.50 am.

Two fire engines from Crewe and Congleton went to the scene after reports of an electrical pylon on fire in Lawton Road.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and cool the surrounding area.

"Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for any hotspots. The road was closed while the incident was dealt with."
