A firm has come to the rescue of the family whose home was left without a roof following a high-profile arrest near Alsager. 

Bosses of Oniti Emergency Home Care from Sandbach read our story here saying how tiles had been taken off the roof of a house in Rode Heath. 

The company, whose work takes them all over the country repairing homes, rushed to the property in Beech Avenue and offered to help for free.  

And a family member of the damaged Rode Heath home says they can't thank the big-hearted bosses of the company enough for stepping forward and sorting the issue out for free.

This now allows the money raised through their GoFundMe campaign to fund other necessary repairs following the high-profile arrest.

Oniti provided its labour free of charge and got suppliers to come up with free tiles and other equipment needed to complete the job, saving the owner, whose house insurance had run out four days previously, nearly £4,000.  

The firm's senior roofing manager, David Campbell, from Ettiley Heath said: "We were just glad to help. We got Travis Perkins in Crewe to donate timber, SIG to donate tiles and Capital Roofing Centre in Stoke to help us as well. 

 "We've all got homes and we can't imagine what it must have been like for the owner to come back and find this had happened.  

"We just pulled up our sleeves and got stuck in. It took us several hours but we got the job done, using unbroken tiles we managed to salvage at the front of the house and new ones at the back so it looks in keeping." 

He added: "The local community were great and brought us cups of tea and something to eat. It's a fantastic community spirit here. 

"We just wanted to put the house right so they can move back in."

Sister site, Alsager Nub News told here how family member, Steffi Garrett from Alsager, had launched the appeal to fund repairs for the house in Beech Avenue.  

Donations came flooding in and the fund here now stands at £5,343 which Oniti Emergency Home Care hope will now be used to fund repairs to the rest of the house - including replacing windows and doors.   

Steffi said: "They did an absolutely amazing job. We are so grateful for all of their help and generosity. We can't thank them enough." 

Nub News told how James Todd, of Beech Avenue, Rode Heath, was arrested at around 3.33 pm on Sunday 28 July. 

The 33-year-old was later charged with burglary of a dwelling, assault of an emergency worker, affray and criminal damage. 

Todd appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday last week (30 July) and has been remanded in custody to appear at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, 27 August.
