Fourteen riders took part on bicycles more than 30 years old, with the oldest machines dating back around 60 years.

They were joined by another 14 Alsager Harlequins members riding modern road bikes, putting several generations of cycling technology on the road together.

The event, which took place yesterday (16 August), was Alsager Harlequins' classic bike ride which started at Alsager Golf and Country Club with prizes for the best bikes and the best male and female dressed in classic clothing.

Members of Nantwich Triathlon Club also supported the event and joined in the ride which started and finished at Alsager Golf & Country Club, with riders able to choose from three routes.

The shortest was a 23-mile ride through local lanes, returning to the golf club for a light snack. A 37-mile route took in Grasslands Garden Centre, while the longest 57-mile route headed to The Poffee at Burwardsley.

Simon Jones was named Best Dressed Male for his vintage Carlton cycling jersey, while Maxine Price won Best Dressed Female after arriving on her Pashley bicycle.

The award for the Bike Most People Would Like to Take Home went to Robert Wilson for his beautifully restored Harry Quinn bicycle, fitted with a Campagnolo groupset.

The event highlighted how bicycles built decades ago can still be enjoyed on today's roads when they are well maintained.
