Alsager Town Council has opened its application process for co-option on to the council.

There are currently four vacancies for members of Alsager Town Council – two in Alsager West ward and two in Alsager East ward.

Now the town council is calling on anyone aged 18 or over registered as an elector in Alsager interested in working for the community to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "The term of office is until May 2027. You do not have to be a member of any political party, although you will be expected to sign a declaration to the effect that you will agree to abide by the Code of Conduct, which governs the way in which all councillors undertake their duties.

"As a town councillor you will have the opportunity to bring local issues to the attention of the town council, and help to make decisions on behalf of, and for the benefit of the local community.

"Being a town councillor can be a very interesting and rewarding experience and although town councillors get no financial reward, many find it personally rewarding as they almost certainly do something positive and are able to influence decisions, which will help to shape the future of Alsager."

The make-up of the new town council following May 4th is four Independents, three Liberal Democrats, three Labour councillors and one Green, a total of 11 on the 15-seat council.

One of the 11 councillors currently on Alsager Town Council is Councillor Rachel White who sits in the central ward.

Cllr White was co-opted on to the town council last September as revealed in our story here and is looking forward to another term in office.

"As the closing date for nominations grew closer, I realised that I would miss being part of the town council and volunteering for Alsager in this way.

"Although there's still a lot to learn about acting as councillor, I have learnt much in the last 9 months and want to continue to put this knowledge into practice."

Would you like to serve on Alsager Town Council? Candidates need to submit a letter of application that is no more than one side of A4, detailing what they feel they bring to the position and complete a 'Candidates Consent to Co-option form' form.

Both can be emailed to [email protected] or posted to 3 Lawton Road, Alsager, ST7 2AE.

If you are interested and wish to obtain further information then please contact Nicola Clarke, Town Clerk, 3 Lawton Road, Alsager, ST7 2AE. Tel: 01270 876440 or email: [email protected]

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, May 26th, 2023.
