An Alsager charity has launched an urgent appeal to find a loving home for a beautiful lurcher/whippet for Christmas.

Poppy was so thin when she was rescued that the RSPCA feared she might not survive the night.

After months of care by Alsager Animals in Need, she was found a foster home but now the charity wants to find her a permanent 'forever' home.

Lisa Williams, from Alsager Animals in Need, said: "She is still with us after 22 months and desperately looking for a forever home.

"She was an emaciated case we rescued in January 2022, weighing half her body weight at 13.7 kgs.

She looks amazing now at 25 kgs. Her original owner was prosecuted by the RSPCA.

"All vet bills, food, etc are all paid for by the rescue. She is classed as one of our long-term foster dogs in our sanctuary part of the rescue."

Poor Poppy was covered in lesions and was so underweight that a vet who examined her when she was rescued by the RSPCA said an injury could have been caused by extreme hunger.

Alsager Animals in Need, which looks after many other animals, would love to see Poppy settled with her forever home.

They said: "She is strong on lead and we would like to see her with older 12-plus children only.

"She's a beautiful loving dog who has a lot to give and just needs a sensible home with correct basic training, which the rescue will support.
