The 1st Alsager Scout Group is currently undertaking two fundraising campaigns to raise money for two different causes.

Throughout 2020 most activities of the scouts have been either stopped entirely, or severely curtailed and most groups have not charged any subscriptions, and have not been able to conduct usual fundraising activities.

The effect of this has been to put some groups in areas that most need of such youth organisations in dire financial positions.

To help raise funds to support these groups The Scouts Association is organising a virtual hike around the world, which the 1st Alsager Scout Group are currently embarking upon.

Furthermore, 20% of money raised by Alsager's Scout Group will go to support them, this proportion of the fund raising will be used towards the annual HQ, County & District membership fee which is over £45 per member due in the New Year.

The figure would normally be collected via the termly subscriptions which scout groups have not been able to fully ask for since March

On the 1st Alsager Scout Group fundraising page, captain David Huss, said: "Covid-19 is the biggest crisis we have faced in a generation.

"If these groups close, thousands of young people will miss out on all the life-changing skills and experiences being a scout can bring, precisely when they need us most."

So far, members of the group, from all sections, have undertaken walks of varying lengths totalling more than 150 miles.

The group's Phoenix Explorers are going to be walking or running 40 miles between now and the end of the year to raise money to provide residents of Milton House Care Home with some additional Christmas decorations and treats during this festive period.

The group's fundraising page said: "With current Covid-19 restrictions, it is often the most vulnerable members of our society who are most affected.

"We hope that our small contributions bring some light into this period of darkness."

In addition to their fundraising, the explorers have written Christmas cards to the residents and have got plans to provide a virtual Christmas performance or message during December.
