Following the Governments refusal to provide free school meals over half term, The Chinese Garden in Alsager has pledged to help those most in need.

The restaurant, on Crewe Road, has offered a free children's meal to anyone who cannot access the free meal scheme.

A spokesperson for The Chinese Garden, said: "All requests can be made in complete discretion. We are all in this together."

The restaurant is open Wednesday to Monday from 5pm to 10pm.

Conservatives voted down a motion to feed more than £1.4 million children during school breaks until Easter next year.

The bid, tabled by Labour, was defeated by 322 votes to 261 - with a majority of 61.

The motion was backed by England and Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford, his campaign to end child poverty recently saw him awarded with an MBE.

Congleton MP Fiona Bruce (Conservative), who represents Alsager, voted down the motion.

Nub News reported yesterday that the Congleton MP was accused of putting her party whips views above her own values.

Rashford has been "blown away" by news of local businesses stepping up to fill the voucher scheme during the October half term.
