It's come home – and Alsager, like the rest of Cheshire, celebrated in style after the Lionesses won Euro 2022 last night against Germany.

The Bank Corner in Lawton Road was packed out for the event which saw massive cheers all round when England scored the winning goal to clinch the title.

Venues across the town showed the big match and were too packed out with football fans enjoying the historic moment - the first major tournament any England squad has won since the men's team won the World Cup in 1966.

Down the road in nearby Sandbach, the town's own 'lionesses', Sandbach United ladies' first team, watched the match at their club in Hind Heath Road.

Ladies' football has really taken off in the town where females are queuing up to join teams at the club - a trend which is set to grow even more after the success in Euro 2022.

Sandbach United's captain of the ladies' first team, Amy Barber (24) was at Sandbach United's Cross Bar facility with her teammates to see yesterday's big match.

She said: "It was amazing. There was a heart-stopping moment when Germany scored but we fought back and played brilliantly.

"What a night! I hope it's inspired more females to take up the game and show how the younger players can progress and develop."
