Thursday 15th May

Alsager Golf & Country Club Jazz Society is set to ignite your Thursday night on 15th May 2025 at 8pm. Prepare for a high-octane jazz experience led by the phenomenal tenor saxophonist Simon Spillett, a true force of nature on the UK jazz scene.
Forget polite background music – Simon Spillett delivers a powerhouse performance that will take you on a thrilling ride through the heart of jazz. With a career spanning 25 years, Simon isn't just an award-winning instrumentalist (boasting accolades from the BBC Jazz Awards, British Jazz Awards, and Jazz Journal); he's a captivating storyteller on his horn. Think energetic bebop colliding with deeply felt ballads, all delivered with an infectious passion that has made him a fixture at sold-out gigs in major festivals like the EFG London Jazz Festival and legendary venues such as Ronnie Scott's.
More than just a brilliant player, Simon is a charismatic performer with a dry wit that reminds us that jazz is as much about entertainment as it is about artistic expression. Whether he's blowing up a storm on his sax or sharing his deep knowledge of UK jazz history, his enthusiasm is utterly contagious.
Guiding the rhythm section will be the exceptional Andrzej Baranek on piano, a name synonymous with top-tier jazz musicianship in the region. Andrzej's dynamic and versatile playing, drawing inspiration from the harmonic worlds of Bill Evans to McCoy Tyner, provides the perfect springboard for any soloist. His sensitive and intuitive accompaniment is guaranteed to elevate Simon's already electrifying performance.
Completing this formidable quartet is Mike Green on bass, a highly sought-after musician with a First Class Degree from The Birmingham Conservatoire. Mike's extensive experience includes sell-out appearances at prestigious jazz clubs like Ronnie Scott's, Pizza Express, and The 606. He has also graced national television, performing with household names such as Jamie Cullum and Dame Shirley Bassey for the BBC. Alongside the ever-reliable Roger Keay on drums, Mike will lay down the swinging foundation for a night you won't soon forget.
All are welcome to join us at the golf club (ST7 2UR) - no membership is required. Admission is £10 cash on the door, and you can even try your luck in our optional raffle. Don't miss this chance to witness a true master of the tenor saxophone in full flight!
