Alderley Edge Men's 2s 5 Triton Men's 1s 1

With fixtures in the North League suspended due to the Covid pandemic, Triton Men's 1s took on Alderley Edge 2s in a friendly match.

Triton were 2-0 down within 15 minutes as two freak goals that undid goalkeeper JP Dodd. Some super work down the right-hand side from Andy Conway led to him squaring for Kieran Puetz to pull one back on 24 minutes for a 2-1 score line at half-time.

The second half was pretty much one-way traffic as Alderley Edge piled on the pressure with Triton showing little attacking threat.

After a multitude of second half penalty corners and several opportunities, Alderley Edge ran in three further goals for the match to finish 5-1 to the hosts as they showed why they are a league higher than Triton.

Triton Men's 2s 1 Chester Men's 3s 2

The Men's 2s lost a very competitively fought fixture against Chester. The visitors took the lead against the run of play and in controversial style as Triton appealed for dangerous play following a high ball into its D.

The home team pressed for an equaliser throughout the first half but without producing much quality in from of goal. After the break Triton again forced Chester back but the away team earned a penalty corner that was converted.

Triton pressed again and Harry Clare pulled a goal back. But despite its hard work the home team could not find the equaliser its endeavours deserved.

Triton Men's 3s 2 Wilmslow Men's 4s 0

The Men's 3s returned to winning ways with a fine display in the early match at the Alsager Sports Hub.

Triton started quickly and put Wilmslow under some pressure by pressing high and keeping the ball in the attacking half for large portions of the game.

The opening goal came when teenager Ben Brock coolly lifted the ball over the on-rushing Wilmslow keeper. Other chances came and went with a number of great balls being fired into the D but without finding a goal bound connection.

Mark Drew was exceptional in a defensive midfield role, mopping up much of what came his way. Triton's second goal came when skipper Alan Lewis fired the ball home between the keeper's legs.

The game ended 2-0 to the hosts with a sense of a job well done, but there could and probably should have been more goals.

Alderley Edge Men's 7s 6 Triton Men's 4s 0

The Men's 4s put up a much improve performance this week but eventually went down to a defeat away at Alderley Edge.

In the first half, Alderley Edge applied plenty of pressure in the Triton half and, in return Triton had periods of pressure in the Edge half.

The home team tried to catch the visitors on the break but the whole of the Triton team defended well to keep the score down to 1-0 at the interval.

Going forward, chances fell to Paul Williams and Josh Lewis but the equaliser couldn't be found.

The second half got off to a bad start with Alderley Edge getting a second within the first few minutes, just sneaking the ball passed the keeper's near post from the byline.

However, what followed was a breathless passage of play with end-to-end hockey. The hosts got a third during this period, but Triton never looked out of the game.

The young Triton central midfield triumvirate of Jonathan Holme, Benji Townsend and Harry Topping did brilliantly - defended well and helped to create a number of chances on the counter. Lewis, Paul Williams and Topping all came close to scoring in one-on-ones.

Then, in the last 10 minutes, Triton fell away as tiredness had crept in as Alderley Edge added three more goals. Yet there was still time for Harry Topping to go close again, in what would have been a very good solo goal.

Defensively, Pete Walton did well on the left and was a good outlet going forward. Matt Molloy, Nathan Williams and Scott Whittaker all made important interventions and Darren Cook maintained his usual high standards.

Following the Government's announcement of a lockdown for England from 5 November until 4 December, England Hockey has stated that there will be no club hockey before Saturday 5 December 2020.
