Alsager Town has cancelled tonight's league fixture after one of their players was contacted by Track and Trace.

The club announced that the night game against Cammell Laird 1907 will not go ahead due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The Bullets' chairman Terry Greer told Nub News the club made the decision after a player had been contracted by Track and Trace yesterday (Monday), and was informed he had come into contact with a member of the community who had tested positive for coronavirus.

Stuart Tulloch's side were due to play the Merseyside-based outfit at Wood Park a day after Boris Johnson unveiled new coronavirus regulations.

The three-tier system unveiled yesterday sees areas categorised as medium, high or very high risk at spreading the virus.

Cheshire East was placed in tier two - high risk - whilst Liverpool and the rest of Merseyside was placed into the 'very high' tier of the lockdown system.

An Alsager Town FC spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, tonight's fixture with Cammell Laird 1907 has had to be postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

"Watch this space for the new arrangements. The club apologises for any inconvenience."

A Cammell Laird spokesperson added: "Tomorrow's NWCFL First Division South game at Alsager Town has been postponed due to Covid-19 issues for the hosts.

"We send them our best wishes, and hope they are able to return to playing safely soon."

Mr Greer told Nub News he expects Saturday's clash away to Maine Road to go ahead.
