Two women from the Alsager area have formed a group for other like-minded women in a bid to make new friends and get out and about in the area.

Talented art lover, Sonia Harrison from Church Lawton, who runs Cup and Cake Parties and Let's Get Arty has teamed up with friend, Jean Ratcliffe, to run a group for women over fifty.

And on Saturday (June 22nd) they are meeting other like-mind women who want to join the group at Costa Coffee in Sandbach Road South at 10 am. The duo recently went to Alsager Carnival together and are plan other events.

Sonia, who runs art classes for youngsters as we revealed here said: "Back in January this year, I saw a post from a lady, saying she was new to Alsager, and wanted to make new friends.

"I responded, we met and hit it off immediately. We both moved to Alsager in our fifties and worked outside the area.

"We were too old for 18-30 holidays but felt too young for the WI. So meeting new people and making friends at our age, was proving difficult.

"We don't have school age children, so don't have the chance of chatting at the school gate, or at kids events, so it just felt impossible to find anyone to get together with and have a coffee.

"Several months later, having met up weekly, Jean and I discussed the possibility of setting up a group for women over 50, wanting to make new friends and gain a social life.

"We knew we couldn't be the only women out there that felt isolated in a new place, or on their own. So here we are. Meeting officially for the first time on Saturday morning. Let's hope we can make women a little less lonely."

She added: "If you are interested in joining us, simply turn up at 10am on Saturday (June 22nd) or message Sonia Harrison or Jean Ratcliffe for more information. We're already planning our next get together for Sunday 7/7."
