Triton Hockey Club is incredibly sad to announce the sudden passing of Club President Steve Wade yesterday morning (7 December 2020).

Steve had previously spent two very successful spells as Club Chair and was influential in founding the club in 2000 when Triton Hockey Club was formed from a merger of Sandbach, Alsager and Kidsgrove Hockey Clubs.

Steve's immense influence stretched throughout the club's 20-year history as he oversaw the expansion of the senior teams, was an integral part of the junior development at the club and influenced a substantive growth in its membership.

His coaching came to the fore as he took responsibility for the Girls' U14s team in its inaugural season of 2010/11.

A couple of seasons later Steve took the backbone of this side into the Cheshire League set up to form a new Ladies' 2s team for Triton and under his watchful eye it quickly moved through the divisions.

Many of the players Steve Wade introduced to his teams went on to play

representative hockey in particular Gaby and Maddie Goodman who represented Wales and England U16s respectively.

But hockey was not just about elite players to Steve whose approach was always very inclusive. Players of all abilities were encouraged to participate and enjoy the game he loved.

Steve Wade's greatest local sports legacy will be the building of the Alsager Sports Hub and Triton Hockey Club's new home from Autumn 2019.

Steve was a tireless campaigner for almost 10 years that ensured that the Hub would be built on the site of the old Manchester Metropolitan University Alsager campus.

It is for this especially that Steve will be so fondly remembered by Club members and the wider Alsager community.

Steve was a spectator at the Alsager Sports Hub last Saturday to cheer on his daughter and many of his former players as hockey returned following the recent lockdown.

Steve will be greatly missed by all at Triton HC and the club wishes to pass on it deepest sympathies to his wife Jan and children Tom, Becky and Lottie.
