A fitness-mad Alsager teenager is doing a daily July charity running challenge for the hospital which saved his dad's life.

Eighteen-year-old George Alcock who works at Alsager Leisure Centre, is doing a 'July Miles for Royal Papworth Smiles' raising money for the Royal Papworth Hospital Charity.

George's dad, Paul, a solutions architect, underwent a double lung transplant at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cmabridgeshire and is currently recovering at home.

Now his son, a former Alsager School student now an apprentice with Everybody Health and Leisure, is using his running skills to raise money to help others patients at the Royal Papworth Hospital.

George, who lives with his family at Derwent Close said: "This July, I'm challenging myself to run every single day to raise money for the incredible Royal Papworth Hospital Charity.

"This cause is especially close to my heart, as my dad recently underwent a life-saving double lung transplant at Royal Papworth.

"Their care, expertise, and support have meant the world to our family, and now it's my turn to give something back.

"Every step I take this month is a step in gratitude and hope — for the patients, the families, and the dedicated staff who make miracles happen. Please consider donating to help support their vital work. Every mile matters."

George has set up a JustGiving page here and has already raised £1,927 and hopes this will be much more when his challenge finishes at the end of July.

He is fitting in his daily runs, some of which are around 5k either before or after he finishes work at the leisure centre..

"Whenever I'm not working I'm out running. Everyone's been so generous. The hospital was so incredible to my dad I wanted to give something back."

George's mum, Catherine, a private tutor said: "My husband's life has truly transformed our lives in ways we could never have imagined.

"From barely being able to breathe to now living life with hope and strength, we are beyond grateful. We're so proud that George is raising money for the Royal Papworth as a way to give back to the incredible team that made this possible.

"Their expertise, care, and support have given us a second chance, and we want to help ensure other families can experience the same."
