Volunteers from a charity helping destitute children in one of Africa's poorest countries have just held a major fundraising event in Alsager.
Members of Hope Uganda, a UK-based charity helping children in Uganda, held a comedy night at Alsager Community Church last night (Saturday).
A fun line-up was on offer at the event which aims to raise as much money as possible for children at the Rainbow Hope Centre.
Volunteer, Lyndsey Field, has been going out on yearly trips to Uganda for the last four years to help with the project.
She said: "As a charity we have been able to build a centre where the children are able to live and have a home.
"We currently look after 15 destitute children who are from different backgrounds, providing them with a home, food and an education.
"As a charity, all donations are given directly to the charity, to provide food, medical requirements, school fees and school requirements."
Lyndsey, who lives in Sandbach and owns her own architectural and design industry business added: "I've always been involved with the charity, attending events etc and supporting them, but recently last year I became a member of the committee which has allowed me to be more involved.
"I've been going out on yearly trips to Uganda which helps me to interact more closely with the children and adults at the centre and create a closer relationship with them all.
"The charity has been run over several years by my parents and the committee. My dad saw some derelict land while over in Uganda years ago visiting another project and saw a vision - to build a home for destitute children and this is what happened.
"The Rainbow Hope Centre homes 15 children and provides work for several adults too. Our aim is to offer them all a better life, provide a safe loving home and full-time education.
"We rely purely on our monthly sponsors and are so thankful for the support from each and every one of them, but currently we are struggling as a charity financially."
The comedy night in Alsager will help boost funds. Tickets cost £7 and are available by phoning Lyndsey on 07894 877324 or going into Alsager Community Church in Lawton Road.
