Three fire engines used breathing apparatus and water to extinguish a HGV lorry fire on the M6 near Sandbach.

One fire engine from Alsager and Crewe went to Sandbach service station on the northbound carriageway yesterday (Sunday) at 10.20 am.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The fire involved one HGV on the car park of the service station.

"The cab of the lorry was well-alight on arrival. Crews used four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters remained at the scene dampening the vehicle down and checking for hotspots."
