Meet the Alsager mum who’s taken the plunge to make our lives better
When you've got problems it's easy to feel like you're sinking deeper and deeper and you can't see the wood for the trees.
But there's one woman who's more than happy to dive in deep and throw a lifeline to help us come to the surface.
Mum-of-two, Hannah Bolton, is a scuba diver in her spare time but by day, she is running her own counselling service, helping people to work through issues.
A stunning photo of a Caribbean beach sits on one wall of her counselling studio and one of a Cornish sea scene sits on another wall.
And as the lovely 35-year-old will tell you, both have a story to tell and play their part in Hannah's own journey through to counselling.
"My father was a big scuba diver and I learnt to dive at the swimming baths in Crewe when I was young," she said.
"When he died suddenly aged 52, we went back to Bonaire in the Caribbean to scatter some of his ashes. He loved diving there and it was his happy place."
The other picture in the log cabin which is Hannah's counselling room relates to a boyfriend from her university days.
"Unfortunately, he died from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was from Penzance, and I helped nurse him," said Hannah who is also a trained nurse.
Hannah, who grew up in Crewe and went to Shavington High School, felt a loss following both deaths.
It was this which led her to investigate counselling, eventually opting for a degree in the subject at the University of Derby.
"It was something I always wanted to do but it was finding the time to do it," said Hannah, who has two children Daniel (4) and Elliot who is two in June, pictured below.
Hannah is a qualified person-centred counsellor offering face to face, online and telephone counselling for children, adolescents, adults and couples.
A member of the National Counselling Society she covers areas such as Alsager, Kidsgrove, Church Lawton, Sandbach, Haslington and Crewe.
Clients come to Hannah for help with a range of issues from bereavement/loss to and depression, bullying, autism/ADHD and postnatal depression
"Covid did affect some people badly", said Hannah. "It's left a lot of people anxious.
"There's also issues surrounding 'social norms'. Social media can make teenagers and young people anxious believe they must look or behave in a certain way."
As a mum with young children, Hannah is aware of anxiety which parents may feel as well and runs 'parental anxiety' courses alongside her counselling sessions.
"There's no such thing as the perfect parent," says Hannah who writes a weekly article for Alsager Nub News.
Her one recently here about 'parental anxiety' highlighted many of the issues young parents are facing.
""It can be easy to scroll through Facebook or Instagram looking at people's posts of the 'perfect' family snapshot, or reading posts about how they are 'enjoying every second of parenting," said Hannah.
"I can honestly tell you while these moments do exist and no, parenting isn't always horrendous, enjoying every second is not reality."
