An Alsager resident celebrated her birthday in style with not only a card from the King and Queen but also from more than 400 others!

Marie Lycett, a resident at Twyford House Care, celebrated her 107th birthday yesterday (Monday).

Alsager Nub News ran a story here asking readers to send Marie a birthday card.

And so many answered the request, that the Richard Woodcock Way home was literally a "sea" of birthday cards.

The sprightly resident, who still goes for daily walks at the care home and loves gardening, puts the secret of long life down to exercise and keeping fit.

As a youngster, Marie enjoyed walking and keeping fit in Somerford near Congleton where she grew up,

She ran a cafe from home for cyclists and loved gardening and walking. When she moved to Manchester, Marie worked as a shorthand typist for an insurance company.

Marie moved to Twyford House in July 2022.

"Living at Twyford House is like having a second chance in life," she said previously. "We have lived one life and now we are living another here!"

"We were overwhelmed by the generosity from the general public and Marie was delighted to receive over 400 cards and gifts,." said a spokesperson for Twyford House. "She said it was the best birthday she'd ever had."

Marie was born in 1917 when the First World War was on and David Lloyd George was Prime Minister.

Manager, Jane Haines, said: "Marie is an incredible lady and an inspiration to us all. She has lived life to the full and still enjoys the things she has always loved including gardening and daily walks.

"It is an absolute privilege to have her living here at Twyford House."

Alsager Nub News wishes Marie and other residents every happiness at Twyford House.
