From Cow to Cup: a local dairy's journey to sustainability with glass and plastic options

A local dairy business is joining the sustainability revolution - offering glass and plastic options.
Cow to Cup, which delivers to Alsager and beyond, has launched a new product offering - plastic bottled milk in two litre, one litre or 500 mls containers.
Dairy delivery owner, Lee Payne, of Cow to Cup, has always sold his milk in glass bottles but now is offering a plastic alternative and the two litre plastic container of Bidlea milk is just £2.19.
"Some families and more mature customers or the disabled prefer the Bidlea milk in plastic containers so we have started offering them," said Lee who prides himself on providing the cream of crop when it comes to milk and fresh produce.
"It's easier if they're worried about dropping the glass bottles. My philosophy is that we try to remain as eco friendly as possible but I do recognise the need for plastic in some circumstances especially with the elderly and families".
"All of Lee's produce for his Cow to Cup business based in the Alsager area comes from local farms which he carefully selects for freshness and quality including the dairy herd and milk production at Bidlea Dairy at Orchard Farm near Holmes Chapel.
"All our produce comes from local farms and is fresh. We deliver through the night so it's ready for customers on their doorstep when they wake up," he added.
"What could be better than pouring Bidlea Dairy milk on to your morning cereal or drinking a glass of milk knowing it was milked from cows grazing in the Cheshire countryside.
"You can taste the difference. Many of my customers buy from me because they want to give their children the best. They always say how much they like the fact it's come from a local farm."
Lee has been in the dairy delivery industry for 30 years or so and travels to Bidlea Dairy in four nights a week to collect his fresh produce ready to go out on his rounds.
"We deliver have weekly deliveries on certain days. Our areas include Rode Heath, Alsager, Scholar Green and Kidsgrove as well as Sandbach and other towns depending on the day."
'Cow to Cup' not only delivers fresh produce but customers, of which there are over 300 and growing steadily, also benefit from saving time going to the supermarket and also lowering the carbon footprint.
Lee added: "There can be nothing better than waking up to fresh milk and your shopping on the doorstep."
