A florist who has run a stall at Alsager's weekly Wednesday market since it began has retired after 33 years in the town.

Steve Lovatt of Steve's Flowers was close to tears when he was presented with a Certificate of Recognition by the Alsager Civic team and an Alsager Town Council Civic by Alsager Mayor, Councillor Michael Unett.

Steve, who also has a stall at Sandbach market, said he was delighted to have served the Alsager community and would miss his customers.

He was presented with the two awards at a presentation at today's (Wednesday) weekly indoor market.

"I'm not often stuck for words but today I am," said Steve. "I came to Alsager market on a two week trial years ago and I've been here ever since. It's been a pleasure to be here and I've enjoyed every minute."

Cllr Michael Unett thanked Steve for his dedication and for his "wonderful" service to the town. "You will be sorely missed," he said.
