At Christmas and New Year, there's a sparkling line-up of events at Alsager Civic setting the scene for an action-packed year ahead.

There's parties, music nights and other events keeping staff at Alsager Civic busy making sure everyone who comes through the doors is happy and enjoys the event they are attending.

But it's not just the festive season when staff work flat out - there's a long list of events from weddings to baby showers, private parties and more taking place throughout the year in the legendary building.

Everything is held at Alsager Civic from boxing to sequence dancing, 80's nights and indoor bowls, to ABBA tribute nights and baby classes.

The building has doubled up as a theatre for various productions, concert venue for singers as well as being hired out on weekdays by various groups including dance and exercise classes.

Carrie Dempsey, Civic and Institute Operations Manager, knows a thing or two about the hospitality world, having been brought up in that world.

The 46-year-old's family ran pubs and her grandmother ran the British Legion in Sandbach many years ago, so she's familiar with the entertainment world.

"We love what we do and seeing people have fun and enjoy themselves.. We enjoy running events and making sure they are successful and what people want," said Carrie, who leads a team of six.

"We're open seven days week and see ourselves as very much the hub of the community. We've now got the Banking Hub here and like to cater for every part of the community.

"We have people dropping in just for a chat and to find out what's on and what they can get involved with. There's so much happening - there is literally something for everyone."

As well as attracting artistes wanting to perform at Alsager Civic, Carrie also enjoys coming up with ideas herself for events, whether that's staging daytime discos or holding R & B nights and tribute bands.

"Our Oasis one was such a success and it's on again in October so there's a chance to catch it again then. We do get sell-out audiences."

Carrie's right-arm assistant is Sam Thorley, 38, who began life at Alsager Civic back in 2022 and has progressed to being assistant manager.

"I love what I do," said Sam. "Every day is different. Some of our customers are like friends and pop in for a chat. We have a really nice rapport and will often signpost people to where they need to be.

"People do send us emails and cards to say thank you for helping make their events successful."

Sam and Carrie enjoy seeing guests arrive for all of the events, including Alsager Civic's Tuesday and Thursday lunch club not to mention the Wednesday indoor market.

"The indoor market is popular and it's great that people can sit down and have a cuppa and something to eat at our cafe," said Carrie. "Alsager Civic and Alsager Institute are both well-used throughout the year."

But none of the events would ever take place without the help of the events manager, Luke Hocknell.

A former Alsager School student, the 23-year-old now helps manage bar staff plus ensure Alsager Civic is set up for whatever event is being held.

"It's a great venue and I'm so pleased to be helping to make it all happen," he said." I enjoy meeting people and ensuring everything runs smoothly. For weddings, we're literally part of someone's big day."
