A church near Alsager is throwing open its doors every Wednesday as a 'warm hub' for local residents.

Anyone is welcome to go along to the Good Shepherd Church in Rode Heath from 12 noon until 5 pm for the 'Warm Wednesday get together'.

Church organisers say the heating is on in the morning for a service and then back on in the evening for Rainbows so the building is warm.

Volunteer, Margaret Sankey, whose husband Gerry, is church warden said: "There's no need to feel they have to go to church. This is open to everyone.

"We feel it will help with heating bills and is a chance to socialise and have a cup of tea or coffee with others."

Magazines, books and games are available

Today (Wednesday) is the second week the event has been held and organisers are hoping it will grow and grow.

"Bring your knitting, daily paper, dominoes, playing cards or anything else and come and have a chat," a spokesperson added.

"Save on your heating and keep warm with your friends. Come along for a hot drink, slice of cake and a natter."

The event will run until every Wednesday March next year.

The Good Shepherd isn't the only church introducing measures to help with the cost-of-living crisis.

In Sandbach, the Church on Ettiley Heath on Elton Road is running a 'Fellowship Lunch' on the first Wednesday of each month.

The event starts at 12 noon and soup and sandwiches with tea or coffee for £1 per person is on offer.

Are any other churches or places in the Alsager or Sandbach area offering warm hubs this winter?
