Key stage two pupils from Alsager Highfields wrote original stories for residents at a retirement living development in the town to read as part of the school's World Book Day story writer competition.

Residents living at the McCarthy Stone development, The Oaks, selected the winners of the primary school's competition.

In the latest Alsager Highfields newsletter, Richard Middlebrook, acting headteacher at the school, said: "All the residents and homeowners were so impressed with the quality of our pupils writing and they loved reading the stories.

"It is so good for our local community, especially for our elderly residents who are missing seeing their own grandchildren, to develop these intergenerational connections."

Erin Y, who was chosen by homeowners at the Oaks as the winner of the lower key stage two competition, said: "I'm so excited I won and really happy that everyone enjoyed reading my story."

Oliva M, who was delighted to hear that she won the upper key stage two competition, said: "I can't believe I won. I might like to be an author when I grow up."
