Police have launched an investigation into criminal damage to the former Bank Corner pub and entertainment venue in Lawton Road.

Windows were smashed and glass left on the veranda part of the building which was advertised as opening as a children's nursery on the same day – Tuesday (April 11th).

And Cheshire East Council's enforcement team has been called in after it was revealed the council had not received an application for change of use from a bar to children's nursery.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: "At 9am on 11th April, police were made aware of reports of criminal damage at a building on Lawton Road.

"The caller reported that a number of windows had been smashed at the front of the building.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1521325, or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us "

A sign has gone up at the former Bank Corner in Lawton Road saying 'Hatchlings' day care nursery for children aged five and under is "opening soon".

Alsager Nub News reported here https://alsager.nub.news/news/local-news/former-alsager-entertainment-venue-and-pub-is-becoming-a-childrens-day-care-nursery-177998 how a post on Hatchlings' Social Media page reveals it is opening on Tuesday, April 11th.

The Facebook page, link here, https://www.facebook.com/Hatchlings-Of-Alsager-120529020987090, also said the new nursery was opening on April 11th.

Alsager Nub News has approached Hatchlings for a comment but to date, has not had a reply.

However Cheshire East Council says it hasn't had an application for change of use for the building which closed just after Mother's Day.

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said: "To date, we have not received an application for change of use from bar to children's nursery.

"This would be necessary as part of the planning process. The council's planning enforcement team will look into the matter.

"We cannot make any further comment at this stage."
