Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of a cashpoint fraud in Alsager.

On 6 February police were made aware of suspicious activity at the ATM at Asda in Lawton Road, Alsager.

A cloning device had been placed in the machine resulting in reports of at least three people having had their cards cloned and cash stolen from their accounts.

The device was removed by staff and handed to police. CCTV is being reviewed and two suspects have been seen on the CCTV with the machine - enquiries are ongoing to identify them.

PC Lawrence Price said: "I'd urge people to always be vigilant at any cash machine they use. As well as being aware of your surroundings and making sure no one is getting too close to you when you type in your pin number, check the machine for anything unusual.

"Things to look out for are devices attached to the machine – some are more obvious than others. If you do see something suspicious contact the police and if the ATM is attached to a shop, staff there too."

Anyone who saw suspicious activity by the machine before or on 6 February should contact Cheshire Police on 101 or via the website quoting 25000086708.

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 08000 555 111.
