The chair of Alsager Town Council and Chair of the Congleton Constituency Labour Party, Councillor Michael Unett, has called on Boris Johnson to resign over the party at No 10 during lockdown.

Boris Johnson took Prime Minister's Questions at noon today when he admitted attending the May 2020 lockdown party at No 10 and apologised.

Mr Johnson, said he thought the party was a 'work event' and admitted he should have stopped the gathering. It was his first public appearance since details were revealed.

Cllr Unett said on his Twitter account earlier today: "Boris Johnson absolutely has to go - no integrity, honesty or leadership.

"But even more telling is the spineless members of the cabinet around him having either attended parties themselves or lacking the integrity to condemn his actions and leave this rotten-to -the core Government."

Cllr Unett was elected Chairman of Alsager Town Council at the annual meeting in May last year.

A law graduate, he has a keen interest in human rights law. He was elected to Alsager Town Council in May 2019 – the youngest person ever to be elected to the town council.

Cllr Unett, who could face Conservative Fiona Bruce in the race to become Congleton's MP at the 2024 General Election, addressed the letter to the 64-year-old's Westminster office.

In it, the 24-year-old called for Fiona's resignation in her non-Congleton government role as the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief.

Alsager Nub News approached Congleton MP, Fiona Bruce today for a comment but she was in parliament.
