Alsager's Plough Inn owners consider future options amid pub chain shake-up
By Deborah Bowyer 22nd Jun 2026
Owners of an Alsager pub say they are 'exploring options' after news that they are planning to sell 150 pubs with other sites facing restructuring.
Pub chain, Greene King, revealed 150 of its pubs would be put up for sale as "unprecedented" costs were hammering the hospitality sector.
Rising costs and changing consumer habits are behind fewer people going out to the pub.
A spokesperson for Greene King said: "In March we announced a new pub estate strategy to set us up to deliver sustainable and profitable growth for the future.
"As part of that, we identified approximately 300 pubs that would be better served under different models, with around half of those considered for a potential sale over the medium term.
"As a result of this process, we are now exploring all options available to us regarding the future of the Plough Inn. The pub remains open and trading as usual. We have no further updates to share at this stage."
